Errata

This page records errata for the first edition. The corrections below are incorporated into the PDFs; corrected copies are available through the library for purchased editions. Any second editions will be presented separately once their scope has been defined.

I. Elements

v1.1
  • I · article 011 · FR — Translating one of two intersecting lines does not remove their intersection; the example now uses distinct parallel lines. (major · fixed in v1.1)
  • I · article 001 · FR — Multiplication precedence is explained using 2 + 3 × 4; the reversed punctuation analogy has been removed. (minor · fixed in v1.1)
  • I · chapitre 1 · FR/EN ; abrégé et précis I · FR — Squaring is justified by monotonicity on non-negative numbers; a sufficient condition is no longer presented as necessary. (minor · fixed in v1.1)
  • I · article 031 · FR — The graph of height against time is distinguished from the spatial trajectory. (minor · fixed in v1.1)
  • I · article 052 · FR — In the folding analogy, symmetry pairs points, not printed words. (minor · fixed in v1.1)
  • I · article 126 · FR — The variation table is presented in the setting of a differentiable function of one real variable. (minor · fixed in v1.1)
  • I · article 138 et abrégé I · FR/EN — An antiderivative is a function; the definite integral is computed from the difference between its endpoint values. (minor · fixed in v1.1)
  • I · article 128 · FR/EN — The data determine a consistent sketch without guaranteeing uniqueness. (minor · fixed in v1.1)
  • Au lecteur · FR — The exercise-system description explicitly applies to the course chapters of Volumes I–III. (minor · fixed in v1.1)

II. Foundations

v1.1
  • II · chapitre 58 · FR — The normalising constant 1270080/1968329 rounds to 0.6453 to four decimal places. The three-decimal value 0.645 remains correct; the English edition was already correct. (typo · fixed in v1.1)
  • II · article 255 ; abrégé II · FR/EN — The quadratic-form figure shows the asymptotes y = ±2x and places the minus sign within its region, clear of the axis. (minor · fixed in v1.1)
  • II · article 258 · FR — The affine-frame components are corrected: PX = (37.6, 8), PY = (16.4, 24). (minor · fixed in v1.1)
  • II · article 266 · FR — The B ∩ C label is moved into the corresponding region outside A. (minor · fixed in v1.1)
  • II · article 160 · FR — Polynomial division distinguishes the integral-domain property from invertibility of the leading coefficient. (minor · fixed in v1.1)
  • II · article 169 · FR — The Sylow cross-reference points to Chapter 49 of Volume III. (typo · fixed in v1.1)
  • II · articles 272, 273, 274 et 276 · FR — Convergence cross-references now point to Studies 2–3 of Chapter 58 and Chapter 20 of Volume III, as appropriate. (minor · fixed in v1.1)
  • II · article 282 · FR — The cell in the cone diagram lies within its flank, matching the verified English geometry. (minor · fixed in v1.1)
  • II · partie XI, chapitre 44 ; abrégé II, chapitre 43 · FR — Limits along different paths do not suffice to establish an overall limit. (minor · fixed in v1.1)
  • II · article 284 · FR — The Runge figure uses the exact degree-10 interpolant at the eleven specified nodes. (minor · fixed in v1.1)
  • II · article 285 ; abrégé II, chapitre 61 · FR — The quadrature diagram uses midpoint values and two quadratic interpolants for Simpson’s rule. (minor · fixed in v1.1)
  • II · chapitre 62 · FR — The explicit formula distinguishes right-continuous J from its mean value J₀ at jumps; π is recovered using the right-hand limit. (minor · fixed in v1.1)
  • Au lecteur · FR — The exercise-system description explicitly applies to the course chapters of Volumes I–III. (minor · fixed in v1.1)

III. Graduate Mathematics

v1.1
